The Rowan University-Rutgers–Camden Board of Governors is looking for a vendor to operate and occupy a cafe space on the ground floor of the Joint Health and Sciences Building on Broadway in Camden.
The $70 million building, where Camden County College, Rutgers and Rowan all share classroom, office and research space, officially opened last month.
The ground-floor cafe space, said Dean D’Astuto, includes about 900 square feet and handicapped-accessible restrooms. The board will have the space painted and have new tile floors and lighting installed, said D’Astuto, the director of capital planning, construction and facilities.
The board is hoping for a local restaurant or cafe operator, he added, for a restaurant presence that would add to the growing “eds and meds” corridor downtown that also includes the Cooper Medical School, the Rutgers University Nursing and Sciences Building, Cooper University Hospital and the Coriell Institute.
The restaurant would have its own entrance on Broadway and would have to operate at least from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, though operators would have the option to extend its hours.
Bids would have to include a detailed operation plan, a menu, a staffing plan, a fee proposal and design proposal.
A pre-bid conference and walk-through are scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 14 and proposals are due Dec. 3. The lease would being Feb. 1, 2020.
