Sheridan’s Cafe in Cudahy is closed to the public as of Saturday, the day that the hotel in which the cafe is located becomes a bed-and-breakfast.
Sheridan’s Cafe serves breakfast and lunch only, a format it went to in 2015, making Friday its last day of service.
Sibling restaurant Mistral in Bay View will take over brunch service on Saturdays and Sundays starting June 22.
Sheridan’s Cafe also served dinner when it first opened. The 12-room hotel and cafe at 5133 S. Lake Drive opened in September 2007, in what once was the Fountain Blue restaurant.
An announcement from owners Jane Schilz and Lee Barczak issued late Friday afternoon said the cafe now will be the dining room for B&B guests, but it still will serve as an event venue for private parties.
Barczak and Schilz also own the Rosebud Cinema in Wauwatosa, the Times Cinema in Milwaukee’s Washington Heights neighborhood and the Avalon Atmospheric Theater in Bay View, where Mediterranean restaurant Mistral is located, at 2473 S. Kinnickinnic Ave.
Mistral’s brunch, when it begins, will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The menu will include dishes from Sheridan’s as well as new menu items by Mistral chef Joe Schreiter, who previously was the chef at Sheridan’s.
Carol Deptolla has been reviewing restaurants in Milwaukee and Wisconsin since 2008. She investigates the dining scene anonymously, to make sure she’s getting the same experience that the rest of us receive. When she reviews a restaurant, she visits at least three times to better evaluate food and service. In her visits, she usually brings along other diners to sample as many flavors as possible. Like all Journal Sentinel reporters, she buys all meals, accepts no gifts and is independent of all establishments she covers, working only for our readers.
