Quack, quack! Inside Michigan’s first Duck Donuts featuring made-to-order, warm, wacky creations – MLive.com

TROY, MI – You won’t find any premade donuts at this place. We checked out Michigan’s first Duck Donuts featuring made-to-order, fresh, warm donut creations where the possibilities are nearly endless.

Duck Donuts is holding its grand opening celebration on Saturday, March 7, 2020 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The donut shop is located at 2920 W. Maple Road just east of Coolidge. Each customer who visits during Saturday’s grand opening will be entered into a drawing to win prizes including an Apple Watch, Bluetooth speaker and free donuts for a year.

When you walk inside, your donuts are not waiting for you. They are made in front of you. First, select how your vanilla cake donut will be made by picking any combination of coatings, toppings and drizzles. Coatings choices include chocolate, vanilla, maple, lemon, strawberry, glaze, peanut butter and blueberry. After you’ve made your choices, the bakers will make your donut. The process is fun to watch, especially for kids.

“This is a big family concept here,” said co-owner John Burkhart. “Our first Duck Donuts experience was when we stopped by a store to pick up treats for a friend’s business where the team was working overtime,” added co-owner Demitra Burkhart. “After trying the delicious donuts for ourselves, we immediately knew we wanted to bring the warm, made-to-order concept to Michigan.”

Pricing: You can create any combination you wish or you can choose from numerous suggested signature creations. Donuts are $1.99 each, $9.49 for a half dozen, $16.95 for a dozen. There’s also breakfast sandwiches, coffee, tea, shakes topped with donuts and donut sundaes. This Duck Donuts also features Ray’s famous ice cream from Royal Oak.

Store hours:

  • Monday – Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (5:00 p.m. grand opening weekend)

Quack Gives Back: Leader Dogs for the Blind has been selected as the first Quack Gives Back charity. Through the end of April, customers who donate $1 will receive a coupon for a free donut on their next visit. The Quack Gives Back program partners with various community groups throughout the year.

About Duck Donuts: Duck Donuts was founded in 2006 by Russ DiGilio in Duck, North Carolina. “Our family wanted to buy warm, delicious, made-to-order donuts. When we couldn’t find one, we decided to start our own.” There are currently 90 franchise locations.
