Nominations are being accepted for 2020 Dons and Doñas. Individuals who have lived in Camarillo, Somis or Santa Rosa Valley for the past 20 years and have provided outstanding community service can be nominated for this honor.
Nominations should be made by May 22. All nominations will be kept confidential.
The designation began in early California days as the title given to community leaders.
Adolfo Camarillo (1864- 1958) was considered the “last of the Spanish Dons.”
For the past 50 years, the society has honored the pillars of the community as Dons and Doñas. Some are members of pioneer families, others made a difference in the community through their professional and volunteer efforts. For many, it is an accomplishment to be named a Don or Doña.
Since 1964 over 400 people have been given the honor. The awards will be presented at the society’s annual barbecue event Sat., Aug. 22 at the Camarillo Community Center.
Send nominations to PVHS Dons and Doñas Selection Committee, P.O. Box 570, Camarillo, CA 93011.
