2 men arrested, accused of doing burnouts, doughnuts in I-285 tunnel – Atlanta Journal Constitution

Days after a viral video surfaced showing a large group of people blocking traffic on I-285 as drivers did burnouts and doughnuts in a Clayton County tunnel, police said they’ve identified two of the men involved.

The incident shut down all lanes of the busy interstate last weekend, Clayton police said previously.

On Friday afternoon, authorities identified two of the drivers involved as 20-year-old Zachary Lewis and 21-year-old Isadore Harvey.

They were both arrested later that night, with Lewis being caught in Gwinnett County and Harvey being taken into custody in Clayton County, according to the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office.

Arrest warrants have been issued charging both men with racing on highways or streets, impeding the flow of traffic, laying drags and reckless driving, Clayton police spokeswoman Lt. Cherie West said in a news release.

“Since the interstate drift stunt that shut down a portion of I-285 … detectives have been working diligently to identify involved parties,” West said. “Detectives have since identified and secured warrants for two of the most notorious drivers seen in the heavily popular videos circulating the internet.”

The scene looked more like a high school parking lot than the busy tunnel that runs underneath a runway at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport as scores of onlookers recorded the doughnuts on their cellphones.

Witnesses said cars going about 70 mph were forced to come to an abrupt stop as traffic backed up in front of the tunnel.

“It was definitely organized. They definitely had a system going,” said one woman, who asked not to be identified. “They were hanging out of their cars, driving with their phones, each one of them.”

Some of the drivers called the cops, but the crowd dispersed by the time officers arrived six minutes later, authorities said.

According to police, Lewis was driving a burgundy Dodge Charger with blue lights underneath, while Harvey was driving a black Chevrolet Camaro.
